Forlorn Horizon

On the continent of Varden, the Western Empire maintained order by its imperial presence for almost thirty years. Formed after years of strife between rival countries, it hoped to end further conflicts that have blighted the region in the past.

However after a period of peace and prosperity, a new foe, Valoria, is rising in the East, far away from the Empire's influence. With desires for expansion and help from allies, it has engaged the Western world head on, resulting in a bloody war with no end in sight.

Updates usually on Saturdays or Sundays.

New Schedule (Sat-Sun updates)

By the looks of things my updates are backwards migrating through the week so classic Friday updates have become rare indeed.

So instead of missing my usual loose deadline I'm changing the update schedule to Saturdays or Sundays!

The comic is in it's last quarter by the way. I guestimate ~15 more issues depending on how I pace things or how often I use 8-panel templates.

Forlorn Horizon Facts

I was going to publish a bit of info each week about the comic, but I'm feeling impatient, so here are a few things you didn't know:

-Nolton was named after Nolton Haven, a bay in SW Wales.

-Holst is named after Gustav Holst, famous composer of "The Planets"

-Eldon is named after a pub in Leeds near the University. And also shares similarities with the province of Eldin in Zelda: Twilight Princess.

-A few of the first fans may know that in the early days the comic was called Steel Horizon. Then I discovered that there was a game by this title so I changed it. Plus it sounds cheesy now.

-An alternate name for Eldon was Elchester. This is my "generic english town name" and felt cheesy too. So Eldon was picked.

-North Bergenstein was originally my silly country on the online game Nation States. I kind of wish I picked a better name.

-Westphalia is a province in Germany and a geological time period in certain date systems.

-Drake was named so because I wanted an old fashioned English name for him.

-Originally Mark could have been called Michael.

-Mark comes from Westhoughton (see cast page). This is the town I lived in when I was very young.

-When I used to play games with my little cousin many many years ago, Valoria was just the Eastern Empire.

Resuming and Alteration

I'm back from my field trip so the comic is officially back up. However you'll have to wait a bit until the next issue so stay tuned!

I made a favicon for the site (see current tab or bookmark) and brough all the images except for the art gallery over to a photobucket account, which I believe may be more reliable and faster. However I think it downsized my background.

And also a few more text edits here and there to improve grammar, spelling etc.

New Banner and Temporary Delay

Issues are stacking up at 32 now and I've got a couple of new fans.

But also a new banner for the comic profile viewable on smackjeeves, very similar to the old one but (gasp) it's animated! Figuring moving images get more attention I decided to experiment. I'll eventually update the main thick banner above too.

Also: No comic this week i.e. wait until the 16th or 17th when I should have enough time to update between some exams.

Marching On

So the comic is near 30 issues- a respectable amount. And I'd very roughly judge it is near half way completed. Don't forget I outlined it as a medium length story. Perhaps another 30+ to go though so don't worry about anything!

A few new minor characters will be included for realism because you can't have an army made up of only Guildford, Tennent, Gibson and Edwards!

As for popularity, I have more fans per issue than my old comic C17TV but less steady hits between updates. Though I know a handful of you make return visits often- thankyou! Don't let my visitor tracking habits put you off!

As an interesting statistic, I get between 15-20 views on an update day and anywhere from 1-15 per day, mid week. Geez makes it sound a real ghost town but the general trend is popularity or awareness is increasing. Of course I'm at a disadvantage with a pseudo realistic war comic among a sea of sprite and BL out there on smackjeeves. Maybe I should make a super animated banner. That could be my project this week.

Technical Difficulties

Hmm my tablet is playing up. Whenever I put the pen on it as usual, the cursor is all jittery and wobbly even though my hand is still. So yeah I can't do smooth lines unless I draw very quickly.

I hope the pen isn't broken, or worse, the tablet. Oh well if it is the warranty should cover it. We'll see how things turn out.

So Forlorn Horizon is on hiatus.

Dang. I could draw it manually but that would likely take several times longer and break art continuity.

Sorry guys!

New URL and Map

Ok so the smackjeeves URLs are notorious mouthfuls, so like with my old comic, C17TV I've got a new co.nr domain redirection.

For a slightly easier URL to remember, use www.forlornhorizon.co.nr from now on!

Also I made a new more accurate map on the Background page, so finally you can get a better idea on the perspective of things.

Site Additions

Today I added an extra page, the Art Gallery. Click for Forlorn Horizon non-comic pictures that I drew in the long run up to, or during the existance of the comic. Enjoy, and keep an eye out for any new additions!

Also I have slighty edited a few bits of site text here and there, and removed the google ads (I think). Since I'm a Smackjeeves donator, I feel I can remove them since I have supported the site by direct means.

Next update soonish. Maybe before the new year depending how much work I have to do.
